Richard is an established health and social care journalist and columnist. To date he has published with the RCN's Nursing Standard, Mental Health Practice and Learning Disability Practice. Pieces have been published in Community Care, Drink and Drugs News, Gloucestershire Echo and the Forest of Dean & Wye Valley Review. In 2007 he published a book with the charitably funded vanity house Chipmunka, which on realising they were this and not a publishing house in the traditional sense (as they wrongly market themselves to the mentally ill), had his book withdrawn from print.

Richard is breaking out of the social care mould with commissions in a national country lifestyles magazine, and two county country lifestyles magazines. Watch this space...

Here are some samples of his work.

October 2008 - Mental health Today.

Richard uncovered a report that was about to be published by the IPCC on Police Sections - the Section 136. He was given access to a report into how the police are changing their policy of detaining people in dire need of psychiatric treatment and detention.

Book - Giving Voice to the Inner Scream

In 2007 Richard published a book of investigative journalism (now out of print). It investigated 5 facets of the stigma of mental illness. Below is a chapter of the book which shows the NHS at its bureaucratic worst. Investigative journalism is never really cheery. It is done in hope of change on the part of those it focuses on - I am glad to report that national policy has changed since.
